Welcome to Summer Reading!
Summer is the perfect time to relax, explore new adventures, and discover great books! Reading just 20 minutes a day helps students maintain and grow their reading skills over the summer. This summer, students have TWO (and many more) exciting ways to keep reading and earn rewards!

McKinleys Readers Roar Summer Challenge
Read a Book. Share a Review. Inspire a Reader!
The McKinley's Readers Roar Summer Challenge encourages students to discover books they love and recommend them to others.
How It Works:
- Read a book.
- Record a short book review video using Padlet.
- Share your review with fellow McKinley readers.
- Earn rewards for participating!
Rewards:
- 1 Book + 1 Review - Certificate
- 2 Books + 2 Reviews - Certificate and Prize
- 3 Books + 3 Reviews - Certificate, Prize, and Ice Cream Party!
Who Can Participate?
Students entering K-5Th Grade for the 2026-2027 school year.

Readers Roar Information & Instructions
Santa Monica Public Library Summer Reading Program
The Santa Monica Public Library is celebrating its 20th anniversary with birthday-themed Summer Reading Program, full of reading, prizes, and fun.
Rewards:
- Register - Get a free book from Friends of the Library.
- Reach 10 Hours of Reading - Summer reading sticker badge.
- Read for 20 Hours - Get brand new book and an entry to win a Nintendo Switch 2!
- Bonus Entries - Earn an additional raffle entry for every 5 hours of reading after the 20 hours. Participants may earn up to 5 total raffle entries. Five Nintendo Switch 2 prizes will be awarded across Santa Monica Public Library.
